Maddington 2nd Grade played SJ Blues in the Grand Final at Harmony Fields. SJ's won the toss and batted first and were soon in trouble at 2-10, with opening
bowlers Mark Fitgerald and Geoff Hales each taking a quick wicket. Peter Anderson then came into the attack and was immediately successfull, clean bowling the next two
batsmen to have SJ's reeling at 4-21. A 45 run partnership saw the score to 65, before Mark Fitzgerald had T. Lindsay caught behind with the last ball before tea.
Max Sweetman and Dennis Plummer came into the attack after tea and both bowled well, with Dennis clean bowling SJ's top scoring batsman T. Booth, and Max taking
the important wicket of D. Babich, well caught in the deep by Brad Fletcher. Captain Anthony Richardson then replaced Sweetman and took the last 2 wickets, dismissing SJ's for
136. Richardson finished with 2-16, Fitzgerald 2-19, Anderson 2-22, Hales 2-32 with Dennis Plummer and Max Sweetman taking a wicket each.
Sunday saw Maddington chasing 137 to win their first 2 day premiership in 10 years, but unfortunatley Brad Fletcher was out cheaply in the second over.
Mark Fitzgerald and Geoff Hales (who had to leave early) put on a 30 run partnership, before
Mark was run out for 14. Hales and Dan Gourgaud pushed the score on, before Hales was given out LBW to his surprise for 15. Sunny Prashar fell cheaply and at 4-56, the game
was in the balance. Dean Fitzgerald then joined Gougaud and put on a batting display, dominating the bowling attack and hitting the ball to all parts of the oval. At tea,
Maddington was 4-109, requiring just 28 runs to win. After tea, the partnership of 72 was finally broken when Dean Fitz was dismissed for 64, which included 8 fours and 4 huge
sixes. Anthony Richardson was dismissed for 5, trying to hit the winning runs, and that left Adrian Rutter to hit a boundary and win the game for Maddington. Daniel
Gougaud was not out 18 at the end, seeing the team to a well deserved victory. Man of the Match was Dean Fitzgerald.
